Because the structure begins with a precise digital design and precisely dimensioned CNC-milled blocks, <span style=\"color: var( --e-global-color-text ); font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif; font-weight: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-weight ); background-color: var(--ast-global-color-5); font-size: 1rem;\">the builder will know beforehand <\/span><span style=\"color: var( --e-global-color-text ); font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif; background-color: var(--ast-global-color-5); font-size: 1rem;\"><b>exact dimensions<\/b><\/span><span style=\"color: var( --e-global-color-text ); font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif; background-color: var(--ast-global-color-5);\">&nbsp;kit of parts<\/span><span style=\"font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit; They can be ordered in advance and shipped to site just after the enclosure blocks are assembled.&nbsp; At that point the self-build team simply screws the windows and doors into place.<\/span><\/li><li><b>Exterior corrugated metal siding and roofing panels<\/b> can be pre-ordered and cut at the manufacture&#8217;s site to <b>exactly fit<\/b> the geometry of the enclosure.&nbsp; Corner trims,&nbsp; window and door trims can be pre-cut as well, so that, once the enclosure is up, the self-build team can simply screw the panels and trims in place (over a vapor barrier like tar paper) with self-tapping screws and a battery-powered drill &#8211; <b>no measuring, no cutting<\/b>.&nbsp; Once installed, the m<span style=\"color: var( --e-global-color-text ); font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif; font-weight: inherit; background-color: var(--ast-global-color-5);\">etal-clad roof and exterior walls&nbsp;<span style=\"font-weight: bold; color: var( --e-global-color-text ); font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif; background-color: var(--ast-global-color-5);\">require no painting<\/span><span style=\"color: var( --e-global-color-text ); font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif; font-weight: inherit; Hence, the <b>routing and trenching <\/b>for underground plumbing pipes and electrical conduits to the exact locations where they will breach the enclosure from the bottom is easy to determine and put in place.&nbsp; When floor blocks are being laid, one or more of the blocks will need to have a hole cut into them at the location so that the pipes can be stubbed out to the inside.&nbsp; This will be easy to determine.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div>It should also be appreciated that assembly efficiency, (i.e., reduced labor time), is achieved through the notion of <b>Poka-Yoke<\/b>&nbsp;(a Japanese term and concept) that is intrinsic to the block design.&nbsp; With Poka-Yoke there&#8217;s <b>no way to make a mistake<\/b> when assembling the blocks into a structure, i.e., you cannot connect the blocks the wrong way because of the geometry of the blocks won&#8217;t allow it.&nbsp; Also, an output from the digital design phase is a set of <b>assembly instructions<\/b> that can be printed out and used on-site to guide the self-build team through the steps.&nbsp; Blocks are marked and correlate with the assembly instructions.<\/div>\n<div>&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div><em><strong>Between Poka-Yoke, assembly instructions, and a multitude of decisions preloaded into the design, the process of building a WikiHouse is more efficient and less stressful than conventional building methods.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/em><\/div>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-7321c97 elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"7321c97\" data-element_type=\"section\" data-e-type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-f1a9861\" data-id=\"f1a9861\" data-element_type=\"column\" data-e-type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-443b2ae elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"443b2ae\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<h2>Alternative Foundations<\/h2><p>Poured concrete wall foundations are one of the most complex and labor intensive aspects of house building.\u00a0 You have to excavate the lot to make it level,\u00a0 build footer and wall forms, place rebar, pour concrete, dismantle forms, etc..\u00a0 It&#8217;s not something a self-builder really wants to deal with and it&#8217;s\u00a0<span style=\"color: var( --e-global-color-text ); font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif; font-size: 1rem; font-weight: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-weight ); background-color: var(--ast-global-color-5);\">costly to contract out.\u00a0 Fortunately, t<\/span><span style=\"color: var( --e-global-color-text ); The end result is a level, rigid platform that conforms to the terrain, upon which a WikiHouse can be assembled.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p style=\"font-size: 16px; font-style: normal; font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-size: 1rem; font-weight: inherit; color: var( --e-global-color-text ); font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif; background-color: var(--ast-global-color-5);\">The self-builder, knowing the exact dimensions of the WikiHouse, can sink ground screws into the soil at positions to fasten pressure-treated 4&#215;6&#8243; or 4&#215;8&#8243; wood rails.\u00a0 For example,\u00a0 a 16&#8242; x 24&#8242; enclosure would have a 3 x 24&#8242; longitudinal rails: one under each peripheral edge and one down the middle.\u00a0 Each rail would be supported by 4 ground screws, spaced at 8&#8242; intervals.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit; color: var( --e-global-color-text ); font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif; background-color: var(--ast-global-color-5);\">A 3&#8243; diameter x 6&#8242; long screw is a common size and may be adequate for our example 16&#8217;x24&#8242; WikiHouse but screw determination must be made by a structural engineer who assesses all the aspects of the project, such as,\u00a0 house size, soil type,\u00a0 geographical wind\/snow loads, etc.\u00a0 Screws can\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 1rem; font-style: inherit; font-weight: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-weight ); color: var( --e-global-color-text ); font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif; background-color: var(--ast-global-color-5);\">have a variety of load-bearing top interfaces.\u00a0 In our example, we would use a U-shaped cradle to hold the 4&#8243;x6&#8243;
